Coliemore Harbour Dalkey Ireland Print

from €120.00

This photo was taken on 29th of September 2024 just before sunrise.

That morning, I met a fisherman who told me of their struggle during the night to get their boats out of the harbour during very high winds to a more secure location. Some boats had received damage but thankfully all repairable. This reminds of the fact that this location has so many stories to tell. It could be how it was one the busiest east coast harbours for trade dating back to the 1200’s, it’s magnificent piers built in 1867 still to this day offer great trade for local fishermen, attracts countless swimmers throughout the years, a great tourist spot to sit on the harbour wall gazing out across the Irish Sea and now a thriving rowing club.

Planning this photo I was aware of the potential for low clouds that would most likely block the rising sun, but was hopeful for some light breaking through the stratocumulus clouds and creating that sky on fire look. Fortunately this happened, the sky delivered rich sunrise colours which are contrasted by the white Rowing Club House. The red door balances out the colour palette very well.
